Technique - Macro

Macro:

Definition:

A macro photograph is one in which the size of the subject on the negative or image sensor is life size or greater, although most of the time we will end up looking at a large size image of a really small insect or flower, for example.

Image Bank:

I will need:
1). Tripod
2). Camera
3). Macro lens
4). Soft Box
5). Light meter
6). Flash trigger
7). Remote release (if possible)

My reasoning for requiring a remote release is to decrease camera movement even more. This is because the camera can be moved by the person pressing the shutter. Normally the camera shake is imperceivable, but as this is Macro photography any movement will blur the image as there is such a small focal point.

I used the camera on the tripod to stabilise the images and make sure there was as little movement as possible. I used the soft box to illuminate my image and create soft lighting for the flowers. I used the light metre to find the correct camera settings.

My camera settings were:
Focus: Manual
F/stop: F/8
Shutter: 1/125
ISO: 200

Technique - Animated GIF

Animated GIF

Definition:
a lossless format for image files that supports both animated and static images.

Image Bank:

WHAT I NEED:
1). Photoshop
2). Camera ( And series of image where the subject changes slightly every time).

How to create a GIF in Photoshop:

1). Open your series of images in Photoshop.
2). Resize all the images by going to Image, Image size and then setting the dimensions to 900 pixels by 600 pixels. Also change the resolution to 72 DPI.
3). Next, select (CMD/CTRL+A), copy (CMD/CTRL+C) and paste (CMD/CTRL+V) all of the images into the first image in the sequence. Ensure the images are present in the correct order, starting at the first image being Layer 0 or 1 (however you wish to label them) and the last being layer layer 6 or 8.
4). Select Window, Timeline and then create video timeline.
5). Drag the images into the timeline and adjust all clips to last 5 frames in a staggered manner.
6). Order the images in the sequence you want to show.
7). To test the animated GIF click the play button.
8). To loop the GIF you'll need to select the little cog (settings) and select playback options, then press play.
9). Next save the animation by selecting File, save for web.
10). Now you should ensure the image is looped and that you have selected the file option GIF and 128 dithered.

Technique - Wide Angle Close Up

Wide Angle Close Up

Definition:
A close up image that distorts the proportions of the subject, mainly photographed using a wide angle lens on the lowest possible focal point. Many lens' have a lowest focal length of 18mm.

My camera lens has a focal length of 18mm-200mm. The human eye has a focal length of 15mm.

Image Bank:

My Camera settings are:
Manual
Focal Length: 18mm
ISO:200
Shutter Speed:1/125
F/stop:8

My images:

I am pleased with my images as they show how a wide angel close up distorts the proportions of the person. It does this by making the persons closest limb lok larger than the rest.

Technique - Sequencing

Techniques Blog Post:Sequencing

Definition:
A serial arrangement of which things follow a logical order or a recurrent pattern. Photo sequencing is stitching different images of the same subject matter in different stages of motion to create a display of movement over a short period of time.

Image Bank:

WHAT I NEED:

1). Tripod
2). Fast shutter speed
3). Manual camera settings (to fix the exposure)
4). Manual focus
5). No camera shake (be careful when pressing the button)
6). Direct the shoot (composition/framing and where the moving elements will move from and to are important).
7). Photo editing software

Contact Sheet:

Camera Settings:
Camera: Nikon D7200 with a 18-200mm lens
Exposure: 1/125 sec
F/Stop: 8
ISO:160

How to make a sequence image:
  1. Take a series of photographs making sure you use a tripod so the camera doesn't move. This means the images will be exactly the same. Also make sure there is no overlap between the images.
  2.  Open your image in Photoshop (I used three).
  3. click on the second image in the sequence and press CMD+A. This will select the whole image.
  4. Then click on CMD+C. This will copy the image.
  5.  Go back to the first image in the sequence and press CMD+V. This will paste the image this one as a layer.
  6. Add a mask to the new layer.
  7. While you've selected the mask go to edit, then fill. Change the colour to black and make sure the opacity is 100%.
  8. Next select a brush and change the colour you're painting in to white, then paint over the image where the "other" person is. The person will appear in the image alongside the original.
  9. Repeat these steps for any other layers or "people" you want to add to the main image.
